Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates staffing and patient care assignments appropriate to patient care needs for a specific unit, including biophysical, psycho-social, and age specific needs, and competency of staff.
  • Evaluates staff performance and implements improvement activities to assure safe, quality patient care.
  • Serves as clinical and management resource for decision making and problem solving.
  • Assesses patient’s condition, including biophysical, psychosocial and age specific needs.
  • Documents patient’s status, according to unit specific procedure. Monitors the nursing plan of care on assigned patients.
  • Collaborates with other health care team members to develop an individualized plan of care utilizing the nursing and medical diagnosis.
  • Evaluates patient’s status, nursing instructions, appropriateness of the nursing plan of care, and outcomes of the care provided.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital procedure, including patient and family instruction as well as discharge planning.
  • Evaluates staff performance and patient outcomes and implements improvement activities to assure safe quality patient care, using evidenced based management.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Database software.

Certificates and Licenses:
Valid state Registered Nurse (RN) License

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Previous Director of Nursing experience in a Long Term Care environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
  • Ability to document clinical information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from patients, physicians, family members, and other Rex staff.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
